12 1/2″ Vinyl 40th Anniversary (2001) Ken. The doll came with the following information: ” He’s a doll! In 1959 Barbie took the world by storm. But two years later, girls thrilled at the introduction of Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken. He was cute and innocent, but athletic and masculine. Ken was the perfect teenage boyfriend and dressed in bathing trucks and sandals, this blue-eyed dream was ready for beach dates with Barbie.
Now forty years later; Ken is still her perfect partner for a romantic evening out on the town. Showing dapper sophistication, Ken wears a sleek tuxedo ensemble inspired by the 40th Anniversary Barbie Doll’s elegant attire. His attire come with a black and silver lame bow tie and matching cummerbund which provides striking accents. His rose boutonniere matches 40th Anniversary Barbie doll’s beautiful bouquet. This handsome collector’s edition includes a special commemorative miniature reproduction of Ken in his original 1961 package. The 40th Anniversary Ken doll completes an extraordinary pair of dolls celebrating four decades of American classics.”
In further researching the doll in the Collector’s Encyclopedia of Barbie I learned that Ken’s head mold is from 1996.
I purchased the doll in 2001 from the Barbie Collector Catalog.
