7″ Wooden Kokeshi Lady. Kokeshi is a traditional wooden folk art doll made in Northeastern Japan. Since the early 17th Century the original makers were using their own designs for ornmentation. However, the basic nine pin design remained the same. Today many modern day makers add fabric to their design, as is the case with this doll. I purchased the doll in 1976 from Pam Keys, an Austin, Texas doll collector.
