In the olden days they would carry goods on their buttocks. They were hard working, polite, but sly. When they came near a village, all knew to guard their possessions  well and many a farmer found that his crop had been grazed by their animals. They still wear this costume, owning one at a time because the outfit is very costly.” The doll was made by Christa Seva Mandir Doll Production Circle in Siddeshwar Peth, Sholapur, India.

I purchased the doll in 1973 at the International Shop in Mt. Vernon, Illinios.
