11 1/2″ Seated Porcelain Little Sherlock by Kathy Barry-Hippensteel. The doll was manufactured by Edwin M. Knowles Company for Ashton Drake Galleries.
Ashton Drake provided the following information on Little Sherlock:
“On the outlook for clues, “Little Sherlock” is dressed in his famous hat and cape, ready to examine all the evidence with his trusty magnifier.
Like a little boy you may know and love, “Litle Sherlock” enjoys the chance to prove he’s a great detective. From his dad’s lost washer…to his sister’s missing doll shoe…to the strange disappearance of a few oven-fresh cookies…he’s ready to take on any case in the household.
“Little Sherlock” is a collector doll of heirloom quality. He’s carefully handcrafted with head, arms, and legs of fine bisque porcelain, completely hand-painted. His eyes are hand-set for a lifelike look.
Best of all, “Little Sherlock” is perfectly out-fitted from head to toe as a real detective. The authenic costume has been designed with such attention to detail that, the closer you examine it, the more delightful features you’ll discover.
“Little Sherlock” is the first doll in the Born to Be Famous collection by award-winning artist Barry-Hippensteel, and is produced under the hallmmark of the Edwin M. Knowles China Company.”
I purchased the doll directly from Ashton Drake Galleries in 1989.
