Girl with Gold Belt Buckle

Small Bulgarian Girl-Small Bulgarian Girl Side-4 1/2″ Kimport Wooden Girl with Gold Belt Buckle. The doll came with the following information: “Bulgaria is a predominonly Slavic country  who’s people belong to the Greek Orthodox faith. Until recently the wearing  of store bought clothes was either a sign of laziness or lack of ability.

A cloth belt is fastened by a heavy metal buckle called a pafti. A shamiya or head cloth of white, red, or green when tied over the crown of the head denotes a maiden and when tied under the chin , a married woman.”

I purchased the doll in 1974 from Kimport Dolls.
