Juliana of Holland

Juliana of Holland-7 1/2″ Composition Juliana of Volendam Holland. The doll came with the following letter” Mijn lieve kleine vriendin. I am so happy to be your new popje and have you as my dear little friend! I’ve so much to tell you! First my village Volendam is a beautiful fishing village right on the Zuyder Zee. You should see our colorful windmills and canals and dikes and especially our tulips in the Spring! There seem to be millions of them everywhere you look-red and yellow and blue, and even with stripes like peppermint candy. But I see you are curious about my costume; so comfy during our wet, cold winters. You can always tell from our costumes where we live, and often there are special features which show our trade, or whether we’re married and such things. Mine is what we Volendam girls wear at tulip time. The most unusual part of all is my zeven-klenrige rok or seven colored skirt. My sweetheart from Spaarndam, Pieter, has a most unusual outfit-but I’ll let him tell you all about that! And then, of course, there are my wooden clogs, which clatter so noisily when I run. We never wear them inside, you know. So I’ll take them off right now before I enter your fascinating international doll house.”

The doll originally belonged to Clara Sacingo of Chicago, Illinois. I purchased the doll in 2009 from a seller in Warren, Illinois.
