14″ Poseable Porcelain “Little Bo-Peep” by Wendy Lawton from Her Nursery Rhymes Collection. “Bo-Peep” came with the following information:

“Poor “Little Bo Peep”! Her precious flock of sheep have run away, and she doesn’t know where to find them. Two tiny teardrops roll down her cheeks…but don’t worry. The sheep will soon be back. See? One of her little lambs has already found its way home!”

“Little Bo Peep,” by renowned doll artist Wendy Lawton, is the first issue in a story-book collection of the dolls titled Wendy Lawton’s Nursery Rhymes, bring Ms. Lawton’s distinctive artistic style to the world of childhood characters we all know and love.

Wendy Lawton is widely recognized in the doll world for magnificent child dolls, beautifully executed, but full of tenderness and true expression. “Little Bo Peep” is a wonderful example of this style. Her gentle, oval porcelain face has a sweet nose and pouting mouth, deftly tinted with hand-applied color. “Bo Peep’s” lips actually look as if they are trembling with little-girl despair.

But it’s in her large, green, hand-set eyes that “Little Bo Peep’s” true emotions are clear. Her lost sheep upset her so that two tiny tears roll down her cheks, despite the delicate hand she raises to wipe them away. It’s unlikely that you’ve ever seen such a moving portrait of a little girl in distree, so sweetly presented.

Even her little lamb-whom “Bo Peep” hasn’t yet noticed-is realistically sculpted, then softly flocked and hand-painted for just the right touch of gentle detail.

To “Little Bo Peep’s” costume, Wendy Lawton brings a designer’s eye. “Bo Peep’s” dress, with its squared, ruffled neckline, is in cool stripes of mint-green and white. She wears a bonnet, apron,, and full slip edged with flora;l-embroidered eyelets. Touches of whisper-pink satin ribbon complete the pretty effect…and her little lamb wears a matching pink ribbon of his very own…”

“Little Bo-Peep  may have lost her sheep, but she’s certainty not shedding any tears over her recent industry-wide recognition! Bo-Peep received a 1994 Doll of the Year award, and was nominated for the 1994 Doll Award of Excellence. Dressed in a charming striped frock with eyelet pinafore and bonnet, she’s the first issue in Wendy Lawton’s Nursey Rhymes. She comes with a shepherdess’s crook, a little lamb that’s returned home, and doll stand.”

I purchased the doll directly from Ashton Drake in 1993.
