2002 Porcelain 8 1/2″ Spanky McFarland. The doll is the first issue in the The Rascals Collection by Joseph & Sheryl Hoffman. Ashton Drake provided the folowing information on the Hoffmans in their brochure:
” Sheryl and Joseph Hoffman have been designing dolls as a team for nearly 20 years. working side by side in their old Victorian home in rural Pennsylvania. Their first collaboration was a portrait doll in honor of the birth of their fourth child. Their dolls can be found in museums across the country and have been nominated for the prestigious Doll of Excellence award.
Of The Little Rascals (TM) collection, both agree that it was a labor of love. Sheryl says, ” both my husband and I had grown up watching them. Creating Spanky and his friends brought back so many memories of watching the Our Gang movies and our own childholds. We hope that this collection is a wonderful trip down memory lane, whether you remember the real Little Rascals (TM) or just the ‘rascals’ that hung out in your neighbor.”
Ashton Drake provided the following additional information on the collection:
“When kids get together, one thing is sure to happen-mischief-and plenty of it! Nobody knew how to get into or out of more trouble than those adorable kids who hit the silver screen over 70 years ago…The Little Rascals (TM). With the popularity of their shows being re-run on television and cable stations, the pin-sized plotters are still painting smiles on peoples faces of all ages, all around the world.
Now Ashton Drake invites you, too, to relive the merriment and fun of the popular prankters with “Spanky“, “Darla“, “Buckwheat,” “Stymie,” and “Petey the Pup.” You’ll love the detailed costumes and poseability of every one of these porcelain figures, just waiting to liven up a special place in your home that could use a little “character.”
Spanky begins you collection. Then one by one, four more characters (and “Petey the Pup“) will join the “Spanky“…
‘Somethin’s up, and somebody’s gotta do somethin’ about it and that somebody’s gonna be me!’ “Spanky” was the leader of the most loveable “gang” that won the hearts of millions.
The round-checked tyke with an amazing ability to coin catchphrases like : “And how!” and “You’re tellin me!” also had an unforgettable style of dress. And, if you look real close, you’ll see he still has that little sparkle in his eyes and the same familiar “look” on his face that says it all-that somebody’s up to somethin’-and that somebody is usually “Spanky!“
