15″ Vinyl 2000 “Love At First Sight” Gene by Mel Odom.
Gene came with the following story:
“Cedric Beston, one of the world’s most respected photographers, was photographing Gene when he realized he was late for Elsie Paxwell’s cocktail soiree that he was to photograph for Deluxe magazine. He invited Gene to go along–‘it would be a good experience for you.’ She declined, since she didn’t have an appropriate outfit. Beston insisted that she go wearing the outfit she was modeling.” “Love at First Sight” is circa 1940 and was designed especially for Gene by Dolly Cipolla.
I purchased the doll in in 2001 from Ashton Drake Galleries.
