4″ Wooden USSR Turnip Family Nested Set. The dolls came with the following story:
The Turnip Family:
“Early one Spring, Grandpa planted a turnip that grew so big he was compelled to call Grandma to help him claim the family prize.
“Perhaps we’re getting too old.” sighed Grandma, when, despite their pulling and tugging, the turnip refused to budge. ” Young blood is what’s needed here,” she pronounced. “I’ll call Natasha.”
Alas,, their granddaughter’s best effort were to no avail, so Grandpa whistled for Zhouchka, the dog, who immediately understood the problems, grabbed Natasha’s skirt, and joined in the pulling.
Of course, the cat required no invitation to pounce on the dog’s tail and soon added her strength to the endeavor, though without any luck.
At last, the cat called the mouse, the mouse got hold of the cat, the cat got hold of the dog, the dog got hold of the granddaughter, the granddaughter got hold of Grandma, Grandma got hold of Grandpa, Grandpa got hold of the turnip stalks, leaves, and all, and together they wrested their reluctant giant from the stubborn soil. Three feet around and three feet tall it was-half as high as Grandpa himself ! And so it was that teamwork won the day.”
