Two Chinese Theater Ladies

Chinese Theater Ladies-Chinese Theater Ladies side-Two 12″ Papier Mache 1940’s Chinese Theater Ladies. The doll in the red cape is originally from The Heritage Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas and was purchased in 1971 from the museum.  I purchased in the doll from Patsy Taylor of Cedar Park, Texas in 2000 at the Houston, Texas Doll Show.

The Doll in Grey was purchased in 1995 from Anna Marie Dolls in Youngstown, Arizona. She came with the following information: “Kwan-S-In was the third daughter of the Emperor Miao Tson. She was ordered to marry. At her refusal she was driven to a nunnery and decreed to be burned by setting fire to the latter. But she fled to Mount Shang by riding clouds, and became the Buddha as Kwan-S-In (which means the savior of torment).”
