An interesting story is that the history of Munich begins with a community of Benedictine monks, who were searching for a fertile farming site. They would eventually settle in the present day location of Munich. The name Munich reflects its medial German origin of the word”Munichen”, which can be translated as “Home of the monks”. This group of monks would established a brewery around the beginning of the 14th Century and it would be essential for the economy of the religious community. These same monks would and still today appear on some images of the coat of arms of Munich.
