Ashton Drake provided the following information on the doll:
“If we could pick anywhere on earth to be married, where might that be? of course, most of us choose to wed where our families live, so that as many friends and family as possible can share the joy of the wedding day. But what if that didn’t matter…and we could, just for a moment, imagine ourselves in one of the world’s most romantic cities, dressed in the height of fashion as a bride?

Sculptor Titus Tomescu, a native of Europe himself, has taken this romantic fantasy as the inspiration  for this lastest bridal collection entitled A World of Romantic Weddings. Here are brides of Paris, Venice, Madrid, and London, so elegant and fashionable for our time, yet steeped in special romantic traditions that reflect their exotic locations…

Emerging from her Sunday morning wedding mass into the piazza, this bride glides across the ancient stone walkways. As she passes, a pair of doves, who mate for life, rise into the bright Italian sky and circle away above the Grand Canal. Seeing them, the bride smiles to herself, for she takes them as an omen for the success of her marriage. For this bride, a wedding in Venice is replete with tradition. She is gowned in an airy design of layered and tiered organza, each spiralling layer edged in delicate, Venetian-style lace. A touch of sparkle recalls sunlight dancing on canal waters. In her hand she carries la borsa sposa, the pride of her new husband and the joy of her family.”

The information booklet goes on to provide the following information on her creator, Titus Tomescu:

“Because I’m a native of Europe and have travelled extenively there, I was delighted to take my inspiration for these brides from the four most romantic European cities I know. These brides have dramatic features and unique bridal costuming that really gives them a European flair. I think that makes them a very special addition to any important collection. I hope you’ll enjoy adding them to your own.”

I purchased the Venetian Bride from Ashton Drake Galleries’ World of Romantic Wedding Collection in 2005.
