Senegal is located at the westernmost point of the African continent and is known as the “Gateway to Africa”. Geographically, Senegal has semiarid grassland, oceanfronts, and tropical rainforest. Their national symbols are the baobab tree and the lion.

According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica,”Almost two-fifths of the Senegal’s  people are Wolof, members of a highly stratified society whose traditional structure includes a hereditary nobility and a class of musicians and story tellers.” The other tribes in Senegal are the Fulani, the Serer, the Diola and the Malinke. Today,80% of the population of Senegal is Muslim; the rest practice Christianity and traditional religions.
